Both Malta and Cyprus have suspended their highly sought-after Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Programs.

While Cypriots authorities have yet to confirm whether or not a new CBI program is underway, foreign investors can still apply for residency in the Republic and work their way towards citizenship by naturalization through the Cyprus Golden Visa program.

Meanwhile, Malta has already launched its Citizenship by Naturalization for Exceptional Services by Direct Investment (CES) scheme, which is more accurately referred to as the Maltese Citizenship Act Granting of Citizenship for Exceptional Services Regulations, as a new acting policy for its previous Malta citizenship by investment program. However, the government of Malta stated that the new CBI regulations ensure a stricter application process. Individuals are only be able to apply for Maltese citizenship after three years of residence or by exception through a higher investment after one year.
